Jersey 68, Ithaca 58 TCNJ improve to 24-3 overall, riding a 15-game win streak as well as a 14-game home win streak. Ithaca Colleges season comes to an end with a 20-8 mark, having had its 12-game win streak come to an end. TCNJ led 36-25 at the half over the Bombers as senior guard Laura Buckley contributed nine of her game-high 16 points to help the Lions take the early lead. The Lions would pull away in the second half, holding IC scoreless for the first five minutes as TCNJ would extend its lead to 48-25 (15:18). Buckley finished with a five-for-six effort from the floor with five assists and three steals. Senior forward Leigh Beierschmitt chipped in 13 points for the Lions, as they finished with a 49.0% shooting mark from the floor on the night (24-49). Rookie forward Adrienne Warner added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Lions off the bench. Ithaca was led in scoring by sophomore guard Kerri Brown as she had 15 points. Teammate junior guard Beth Gilbert had 12 points with three assists and four steals for the Bombers. IC shot 52.6% from the floor in the first half (10-for-19) and was a perfect 2-for-2 from downtown. IC committed 22 turnovers in the setback, while forcing 17 Lion turnovers and holding TCNJ to just 28.6% shooting from three-point range. With the loss, Ithaca drops to 2-2 lifetime in NCAA tournament play, while the Lions are now 8-7 overall in eight tournament showings. On Sunday night, the NCAA will determine which of the four regional teams, TCNJ, Elizabethtown, Messiah, or Marymount will host the sectionals. The sectionals will be held on the campus of one of these four institutions and will take place March 9-10 with the winner advancing to the Final Four at Danbury, Conn., March 16-17. |
