Rutgers-Newark 54, Baruch 51

LISLE, Ill. — Concordia University Chicago shot a blistering 53-percent from the field (24-45) on its way to a 72-64 upset of Benedictine University in a Northern Athletics Conference contest. The win drops the Eagles to 9-8 overall and 7-3 in the NAC, while the Cougars improved to 3-13, 2-9 in the NAC.

When all was said and done, however, the real difference in the contest turned out to be CUC's free throw shooting. The Cougars went to the line 28 times and converted 21. Conversely, BU attempted just seven charity tosses (making five).

Concordia's Bobby Smith led all scorers with 25 points on a nine-for-13 shooting night from the floor. Smith made it a "double-double" by also hauling in a game-high 12 rebounds.

Bryan Ganek was the only other Concordia player in double figures with 14 points. Ganek also led his team with six assists.

Benedictine's Tim Swanson led a quartet of Eagles in double-digits in the losing cause, canning 19 points. Swanson was six-for-12 from the field and five-of-six from the free throw stripe.

Joining Swanson in double figures was Travis Wilson with 15 off of the BU bench, Jacob Carwell with 11 points and Dan Klecan with 10.

Carwell and Klecan each had five rebounds to top Benedictine in that category. Carwell also added five assists and a blocked shot.

Benedictine's Jared Bailey had seven assists to lead either team.
