Buena Vista 89, Marian 65

LISLE, Ill. — Dan Klecan had a game-high 18 points, while teammate Jacob Carwell tallied a double-double, to lead Benedictine University to a 62-60 Northern Athletics Conference win at the Rice Center. The Eagles improved to 11-9 and 9-4 in the NAC, while the Falcons dropped to 6-13, 5-7 in league.

Carwell was close behind Klecan's point total with 15, while also grabbing 13 rebounds. The freshman was a perfect six-for-six from the field and also had a pair of steals.

Junior guard Tim Swanson was also in double-digits for the Eagles, rolling up 13 points. Swanson also snared six boards and had three assists.

Concordia was led by Steve Huenink and Josh Atkinson, who had 15 points apiece. The Falcons' balanced attack also had three players - Travis Moulton, John Ulrich and DeShawn Robinson - with nine points each.

Robinson had a team-leading seven rebounds, while Ulrich grabbed six caroms. Moulton had a game-leading seven assists.

The Falcons led at the half, 33-32. BU led by as much as nine points in the first half, 24-15, after a pair of Carwell free throws before Concordia mounted a comeback.

The Falcons upped their advantage to as much as six points on two occasions in the second half, the last at 5:28 left to play on a jumper by Atkinson.

Benedictine fought back and tied the game at 58-58 at the 2:45 minutes left juncture on a short jumper by Klecan. BU took the lead for good just a few seconds later on a jump-hook by Carwell in the lane, 60-58.

Concordia drew to within a single point after a breakdown in the Eagles' defense opened to door for a Moulton layup with :26 seconds left, 61-60. But Klecan made one of two free throws with 19 seconds left to leave the door open for a possible tie or win by CUW.

The Falcons worked the ball up court and got it into the hands of Moulton. However, Moulton could not find an opening and was forced to toss up a desperation shot from under the basket that didn't draw iron.
