Oshkosh, Wis. — Karrie Lamers' jump shot from just inside the three-point line as time expired lifted the UW-La Crosse women's basketball team to a 59-57 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday in Kolf Sports Center.

Lamers' game-winning basket came after she collected the rebound on a missed jump shot taken by UW-Oshkosh's Becky Knapp with 14 seconds left in the contest. Following a UW-La Crosse timeout with eight seconds to play, Lamers took a deflected inbound pass and dribbled to the right side of the court for her heroic shot that helped the Eagles end their 10-game losing streak to the Titans.

UW-La Crosse (10-5/4-2 WIAC) led 26-24 at intermission and built a 39-32 advantage with 12:55 remaining in the game. UW-Oshkosh (7-6/3-3 WIAC) then turned things around as it scored 15 of the next 20 points to take a 47-44 lead with 7:39 left.

Following the third tie in the last four minutes of play, UW-La Crosse took a 57-55 lead on Mackenzie Hunter's layup with 1:38 left in the game. The Titans tied the score at 57-57 on a jump shot by Knapp 35 seconds later.

UW-La Crosse started its 61st meeting against UW-Oshkosh strong as it jumped to a 19-6 lead at the 10:43 mark of the first half. From there UW-Oshkosh went on a 13-2 scoring run, including seven points by Kayla Sharpee, to cut its deficit to 21-19 with 5:44 left before intermission.

The teams traded baskets the rest of the period and the result was a halftime lead of 26-24 for UW-La Crosse. UW-Oshkosh had only three players score points in the first half as Sharpee totaled 12 and Whitney Tyriver (Jr. • Oshkosh) 10.

Tyriver led UW-Oshkosh with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor. She added four steals and three rebounds. Sharpee collected her first collegiate double-double by scoring 16 points and hauling in a career-high 12 rebounds. Knapp contributed 13 points, 11 of which came in the second half.

Palmer led UW-La Crosse in scoring with 13 points, while Katy Searing added 10, Lamers nine and Hunter and Ashley Wagner eight each. Wagner seized eight rebounds and dished off five assists, while Searing hauled in seven rebounds.

UW-Oshkosh shot 46.2 percent (24-52) from the field, including 50 percent (14-28) in the second half. The Titans missed all 11 of their shots behind the three-point line, while canning 9-of-12 free throws (75 percent).

UW-La Crosse shot 36.4 percent (20-55) from the field, including 30 percent (3-10) of its three-point shots. The Eagles shot a sizzling 84.2 percent (16-19) from the free-throw line, including conversions on their last five of the contest.

UW-La Crosse won the rebounding battle 37-26, including grabbing 15 on the offensive glass, but lost the turnover competition 13-15.
