POTSDAM, N.Y. -- The SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team had trouble protecting the basketball and committed 25 turnovers as it fell to New Paltz, 73-61, in SUNYAC action. Sophomore Damon Brown (Staten Island/Port Richmond) led the Bears with 18 points while freshman Anthony Williams Jr. (Brentwood/Upper Room Christian) put in 13.
Senior Jehrod Hall (Syracuse/North Country CC) contributed 10 points and eight rebounds to Potsdam's effort. Sophomore Brandon Siskavich (Peru/Peru) added 10 rebounds and senior Scott Mitchell (Brushton/North Country CC) made six assists.
Much like the women's game before it, the men's contest saw New Paltz (6-4, 2-2) shoot more free throws than Potsdam (5-8, 2-2). The Hawks went 23-for-32 (71.9 percent) from the stripe, including 10-for-11 in the final two minutes. The Bears were 5-for-10.
Junior Tony Cannon (New York/Millbrook) led the Hawks with 21 points and seven rebounds. Fellow junior Amseshem Foluke-Henderson (Queens/Academy for American Studies) added 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
Also for New Paltz, senior John Hauser (Williston/Chaminade East) had 13 points and nine rebounds while classmate Matt Irwin (Brooklyn/St. Edmund Prep) came through with 11 points, nine assists and three steals.
Potsdam will return to action Saturday at 4 p.m. when it hosts Oneonta at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.
