DEERFIELD, Ill. — Posting non-conference victories over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) and Trinity International University (Ill.) this past weekend, the Northwestern College (Minn.) men’s basketball team recorded their fourth straight win and improved to 5-1 overall on the year. With the pair of weekend victories, the Eagles claimed the Trinity International University Tournament title.

Clashing with the host Trojans for the tournament title on Saturday evening, the Eagles continued to roll in collecting a 91-75 victory. Tied at 45-to-45 at halftime, Northwestern created some separation in the second half and never allowed Trinity International to make a comeback. The Eagles extended their scorching shooting, hitting 32-of-52 (61.5%) field goal attempts and 12-of-20 (60.0%) from behind the three-point arc. Both shooting percentages marked season-highs for Northwestern, who also set a new season high for three-point field goals made in a game.

Highlighting the box score once again for the Eagles was Josh Strelecki, pouring in a career-high 27 points, connecting on 10-of-13 from the floor and 6-of-8 from long range. His 10 field goals made and 6 three-point field goals made both were career-highs for a single game. Mike Anderstrom followed with 16 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season, netting 6-of-7 field goal attempts. Sophomore guard Steve Discher (Andover, Minn.) returned to the line-up and contributed 14 points along with 6 rebounds, while Daniel Hanson chipped in 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Northwestern College will aim to extend their winning streak on Wednesday, hosting Luther College (Iowa) in a non-conference battle starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Ericksen Center. The Eagles will begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play on Saturday, December 9, hosting Crown College (Minn.) at 5 p.m.
