HOBOKEN, N.J. — Junior guard Chantel Anthony (Middletown, N.Y.) scored a game-high 19 points in leading the Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team to a 66-60 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday in Hoboken, N.J. The loss was the first of the season for the Ducks as they fell to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the Skyline Conference.

With the game tied at 50-all with five minutes remaining, Anthony scored five points in the span of 36 seconds thanks to two free throws and a three-pointer as the Blue Knights (5-2, 2-1 Skyline) took a 55-50 lead. After a free throw by Stevens junior forward Dora Enright (Longmont, Colo.), Mount Saint Mary senior center LaSheena Brown (Malverne, N.Y.) converted a three-point play to put the Blue Knights up by seven with 2:40 to go.

Freshman guard/forward Sarah Gehring (Spokane, Wash.) came up big down the stretch as she drilled a three-pointer and jumper to bring the Ducks within 60-58. Following a turnover by the Mount, Stevens had a chance to take the lead, but junior guard Jean Matusiak (Queens, N.Y.) missed a three-pointer with one minute to go. MSMC made six of eight free throws in the final 42 seconds to pull out the victory.

Stevens was led by Enright, who had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Matusiak was 10-for-13 from the foul line and finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
