The teams traded shots until the 14:24 mark in the first half. Over the next three minutes, the Bears went on a 9-0 run to open a 25-16 advantage. Colorado College cut the lead to 26-20 before WU responded with a 16-0 run of its own. Senior Kelly Manning scored six points during that span as the Tigers went scoreless for 4:00. By halftime, Washington U. had opened up a 51-26 lead.
Manning, who finished with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals, led the Bears with 12 points in the first half. Herald added eight points in the opening frame as the Bears connected on 55 percent of their field-goal attempts.
Herald started the second half by scoring WU’s first eight points and the Bears never looked back. WU stretched its lead to 30 points (79-49) with a little more than three minutes to play before Colorado College netted the game’s final 11 points. WU shot 45.8 percent from the field for the game and held Colorado College to just 32.8 percent shooting.
Junior Danielle Beehler contributed 13 points and five boards, while senior Leslie Berger tallied 12 points and six assists; Berger also connected on 4-of-5 from three-point range. Sophomore Rebecca Parker, Prairie Village continued her strong play with nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks.
Washington U., which improved to 6-0 with the win, returns to the court Saturday, Dec. 4 against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at the Classic. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. (MT) in Colorado Springs.
