Buena Vista 91, Clarke 43

STORM LAKE, Iowa — Five players reached double-figures as Buena Vista University defeated Clarke College 91-43 in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in Storm Lake. The Beavers improved to 5-1 on the year with the win while the Crusaders fell to 3-3.

Kristina Kapler scored a game-high 13 points. Jess Griggs, Katie Maguire, Megan Holtorf, and Lindsey Meyer all netted 12 points as Buena Vista won its season home-opener. It marked the 25th straight home win for the Beavers.

Buena Vista's relentless defensive pressure forced 27 Clarke turnovers as the Beavers scored exactly 91 points for the third consecutive game. The host school shot 52 percent from the floor (35 of 67) and held a 40 to 34 rebounding edge. Buena Vista also hit 10 of 25 three-pointers while Clarke made just one of 12 attempts from behind the arc.

Leading 12-10 with just under 14 minutes remaining before halftime, Buena Vista went on a 32-11 run to close out the first half to take a 44-21 lead into the break. The Beavers then outscored the Crusaders 36-11 over the first 11 minutes in the second half to seal the victory.

Clarke was led offensively by Leigh Ann Koopmann and Jessi Briggs who each netted 10 points. Jamie Loggins added six points and four assists.
