Rockford College's women's basketball team lost its first game of the season, falling to Elmhurst College, 76-71, at home on Saturday. The loss dropped Regents' record to 6-1 overall, while the Bluejays improved to 5-1.
Rockford junior forward Kristina Dorman led all scorers with 25 points, while also grabbing 8 rebounds. Dorman hit 10-of-17 shots from the floor and also had a game-leading four steals.
Paula Jones chipped in 17 points (4-of-6 three-pointers) and Kristi Strunz added 12 for RC. Strunz also had a game-high 9 rebounds in the losing effort.
Heather Furr's 23 points lead a quartet of Bluejays in double-digits, which also included 16 from Ashley Stein, 14 from Erin Neiheisel and 10 from Candice Sutton. Neiheisel and Aja Terrier shared high rebound honors (7 apiece) for Elmhurst.
The Bluejays never trailed in the game and withstood a late Regents run. RC knotted the game at 56-56 with 5:26 remaining on a trey from Jones, Elmhurst responded with an 8-0 run of its own, thanks to four points and an assist from Sutton during the skein. Rockfcrd never came closer than four points the rest of the way.
