The Tartans led from start to end as they took a 16 point lead into the half, 49-33. Union would pull no closer than 11 points in the second half as Carnegie Mellon went on to the 98-60 victory.
Carnegie Mellon had 11 different players score led by senior Michael Divens (Trafford, PA/Penn Trafford) with a season high 20 points and recorded 11 rebounds for his second straight double-double. Juniors Nate Maurer (Pittsburgh, PA/Linsley School), and Clayton Barlow-Wilcox (Brookline, MA/Brookline) each chipped in with 17 and Barlow-Wilcox hauled in seven rebounds and dished out seven assists.. Senior Eliot Goren (Silver Spring, MD/Bullis School) had 15 points and seven assists as well for the Tartans.
Union’s John Cagianello led all scores with 22 points. James Rahill was the only other Dutchmen in double figures as he had 10 points.
The Tartans shot 73.1% in the first half and finished shooting 62.9% for the game to the Dutchmen’s 39.6%. Carnegie Mellon also led the way on the glass hauling in 41 boards as Union grabbed 19.
The Tartans will be back in action Monday, January 3 as they travel to Oberlin College.
