Colby-Sawyer 83, Cortland State 67

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. — Andrew St. Clair scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Colby-Sawyer College of New Hampshire defeated Cortland, 83-67, at the Land of Magic Classic, hosted by Embry-Riddle University. Both the Chargers (6-3) and Red Dragons (5-4) finish with 1-1 records at the tournament.

Pat Kenny scored 14 points and James Thorpe added 12 for the Chargers, who used a 16-0 run with just over 10 minutes remaining to pull away after trailing by a point. Colby-Sawyer shot 62 percent from the floor in the contest, including 71 percent (17-of-24) in the second half.

Junior Brian Kirchhoff (Webster) led Cortland with 15 points and three assists. Senior Justin O'Garrow (Port Washington/Paul D. Schreiber) added 11 points and three assists and freshman Michael Jankiewicz (Oriskany) scored 10 points. Junior Simon Skrelja (Hastings-on-Hudson/Hastings) made 4-of-5 shots and finished with nine points and a team-high five rebounds.

Cortland led 25-23 with 7:05 left in the first half on a basket by freshman Joe Sargent (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta). The Chargers finished the half on a 15-6 run, however, and led 38-31 at halftime. The lead briefly grew to nine points at 42-33 on a St. Clair jumper with 18:50 left, but Cortland answered with a 10-1 run, capped by O'Garrow's three-pointer, to tie the game at 43-43 with 15:31 left.

Cortland took its only lead of the second half at 53-52 on a three-point play by Jankiewicz with 10:32 remaining. St. Clair's layup 17 seconds later started the decisive run and his layup with 5:29 left ended it and gave the Chargers a 68-53 lead. Cortland got back within nine points twice, the last time with 3:04 left on a Skrelja tip-in.
