Concordia-Moorhead made 8-of-8 free throws in the final minute and ran its winning streak to 10 with Wednesday's 72-65 victory over host St. Thomas in MIAC women's basketball play at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
The Cobbers (16-4 overall, 14-3 MIAC) completed a season sweep of the series after losing 19 in a row to St. Thomas over the previous nine seasons. The Cobbers used a 10-0 run to close the first half with a 33-26 lead and the Toms never were closer than three in the second half.
Concordia's Jamie Visness scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half and Debbie Slack added 10 points and 16 rebounds. Mandy Pearson added 18 points despite playing much of the game with a sore ankle. Karie Visnesss had eight points, eight rebounds and four steals off the bench
Freshman guard Nikki Zappa had 13 of her 15 points in the first half for the Tommies (10-10, 9-8). Anne Laraway scored 10 points and Vel Williams added nine points and seven rebounds.
St. Thomas plays at Gustavus Saturday (1 p.m.).
