Benedictine trailed 33-29 at halftime, but shot 47 percent from the field in the second half. The Lady Eagles pulled away early in the second half as they went on a 16-4 run giving them a 45-37 lead with 14:50 remaining in the game. Benedictine played strong defense the remainder of the game to maintain the lead.
Senior forward Erin McGunnigal led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 16 points. McGunnigal also had four rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block.
Senior guard Julie Robinson poured in 14 points, including 7-of-8 free throw shooting. Robinson also grabbed a team leading seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block.
Senior guard Dalena Sass scored 14 points, recorded a game high five steals, and contributed one rebound, and an assist.
Sophomore guard Sarah McNicholas contributed 13 points, including 3-of-4 shooting from behind the arc. McNicholas also had four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Jessica Reardon led Eureka with 24 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
The win improves Benedictine’s overall record to 12-10 and 8-1 in the NIIC. The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, February 14 when they travel to Rockford College for a 1:30 p.m. tip-off.
