Simpson defeated Central 55-54 Feb. 10 in Pella. Central’s Becca Mills hit a three-pointer with 16 seconds left in the game to pull the Dutch within two. Simpson’s Amanda Pilcher hit one of two free throws to give the Storm a three-point advantage. Rachel Lenox hit a 15-foot jumper with 11 seconds remaining to pull Central within one but the Dutch never got the ball back for a chance to win.
The Dutch out rebounded the Storm 45 to 32 and shot 38.5 percent from the field while the Storm hit 35.2 percent of their shots, Simpson’s tough defense forced Central to commit 34 turnovers, 17 each half.
Cara Hegner had 14 rebounds, nine points and blocked two shots. Lenox had nine points and four assists. Pilcher led Simpson with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Central moves to 10-11 overall and 5-7 in the league. Simpson is now 15-6 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
