Kate's to only 27.6% (16-for-58) from the floor en route to a 75-49 victory.
With the win, Concordia gets back to their winning ways. They have now won 10 of their last 11 games and 14 of the past 16. The Cobbers improve their MIAC record to 15-4 and inch closer to securing a home playoff game. Concordia is now 17-5, which is the most wins in a season since the 2000-01 season when they won 19 games. St. Kate's falls for the second straight game and slides to 6-13 in conference play and 8-14 overall.
Beth Drager led Concordia in scoring for the second straight game. The senior, post player finished with
a game-high 15 points. She also came away with four blocks and seven rebounds. Mandy Pearson scored 14 points and gave out eight assists in 27 minutes of play. Jenna Martin led the Wildcats in scoring. She finished with 14 points and hauled in 10 rebounds to collect her fourth consecutive double-double. The big news for St. Kate's was the return to action by three-time All-MIAC player Kate Stodolka. Stodolka played only three minutes, but had to leave the game in the second half due to a cut over her eye.
Concordia scored the first 16 points of the game, as the Wildcats had to fight off "bus legs" after arriving less than an hour before the tipoff. The Cobbers built their lead to as many as 23 points in the opening half before taking a 39-18 lead into the break. Concordia held the Wildcats to only 15.2% (5-for-33) shooting from the field in the first half. St. Kate's did not score their first field goal of the game until the 11:44 mark of the
first half.
St. Kate's was able to improve in the second half, as they were only outscored 36-31. Concordia held a 20-point margin for the final 18:40 of the game. For the game, Concordia shot 41.6% (32-for-77) from the field. The 77 shots taken is a season-high for the Cobbers. Concordia was 6-for-19 (31.6%) from 3-point range and 45.5% (5-for-11) from the free throw line. The Cobbers held a 55-39 edge in rebounding. The rebounding total matches the season high for Concordia.
Annie Keeley was the only other Cobber to score in double figures. The first-year, guard scored 12 points, collected nine rebounds and added four assists. Tori Ehlert grabbed a career-high, eight rebounds and Karie Visness added eight points.
Concordia will depart on a rare back-to-back game road trip over the weekend. The Cobbers will play at St. Mary's on Saturday, February 14 at 1:00pm and then head southeast to take on St. Mary's in Winona on Sunday, February 15 at 1:00pm.
