Jay Reginatto’s (Torrington, CT) career-high 30 points helped lead WestConn to an impressive, 91-76, victory against Hunter College in their regular season home finale.
Senior Marvin Evans’ (Stratford, CT) added a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds in his final regular season game in a Colonials uniform.
Ricardo Reimers (Brooklyn, NY) led Hunter College with 22 points.
The Colonials improve to 15-9. Hunter College fell to 10-15 overall.
Prior to the game, a ceremony was held for graduating senior Marvin Evans. Evans, a Social Work major, was joined by his parents Leonard and Barbara at center court prior to tip off. Evans has scored 1,180 points, grabbed 653 rebounds, dished out 86 assists, and had 70 steals during his four-year stay at WestConn. The Colonials went 73-35 with Evans on the team, including two NCAA Tournament appearances.
The Hawks only trailed by seven at half, however Reginatto’s three-pointer on the opening possession of the second half extended the lead to double digits.
Reimers’ lay-up with 17:44 left in the game cut the Colonials lead back down to seven points 47-40, . That was as close as the Hawks would get, as WestConn was red-hot in the second half, shooting 50% from the field.
Lamar White’s (Bronx, NY) two free throws with 3:46 left in the game gave the Colonials the largest lead of the game at 21 points, 82-61.
The Colonials close out the regular season at Plymouth State on Saturday. A win over the Panther would guarantee the Colonials a home game in the first round of the Little East Conference that begins on Tuesday, Feb. 24. First-round sight and game time will be determined on Monday.
