Buena Vista 75, Wartburg 64

STORM LAKE, Iowa — The Buena Vista University women’s basketball team continued their streak of 16 consecutive wins to close the regular season. BV beat Wartburg for the third time this season (75-64) and earned the automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA Division III National Championships.

Wartburg kept the game in check letting the Beavers stretch their lead to as much as 15 points, but the Knights fought back to keep the game under 10 points for most of the second half.

Katie Maguire led BV with 21 points followed closely by Amy Meggers who had 18. Kelli Taylor who spent the last two night battling the flu would finish the game with 11 points in 25 minutes of action. BV sank 9 of 18 three point attempts and sank 24 of 31 free throw shots. Wartburg would sink 20 of 25 attempts at the line, but struggled at the three point area sinking 2 of 6 attempts.

Buena Vista ranks #1 in the latest NCAA Division III National Poll in the West Region. Meggers ranks 11th in the nation in scoring this season with a 20.7 ppg average. She ranks 17th in rebounding with 11 rpg. Maguire ranks 17th in assists a game with an average of 5.6 a contest. BVU ranks 2nd in the nation in scoring offense and 12th in scoring margin.
