MIT 77, Coast Guard 65

NEW LONDON, CONN. — MIT outscored Coast Guard 29-2 over a stretch of almost 11 minutes in the second half as the Engineers beat the Bears 77-65 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Coast Guard took its biggest lead of the game 45-36 with 17:20 left in the game, but MIT scored 12 straight points, eight of them by Andrew Tsai, for a 48-45 lead with 14:41 left. Tsai led all scorers with 25 points, including six of 10 shooting from three-point range.
Coast Guard cut the lead to one at 48-47, but MIT then scored 17 straight for a 65-47 lead with 8:10 left.
Mike D’Auria added 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds while Kyle Doherty had 10 points for MIT (8-4, 2-0).
Mark Schiavoni led Coast Guard with 20 points while Kevin Edes (16), Jason Nelson (11) and Ryan Ball (10) were all in double figures for the Bears (3-7, 0-2). Edes had a game-high 11 rebounds for Coast Guard.
