The 59-point win made head coach Melissa Young-Kruse's first game at the helm of the Pipers a memorable one as the team broke a record set when Hamline beat St. Catherine by 40 points on Jan. 6, 2001.
The game was never in doubt as Hamline (1-0) opened the game on a 22-3 run sparked by six points from junior Kelly Lines and sophomore Erin Petrich. The Pipers would lead by 30 at the break (54-24).
Hamline totaled five players in double figures. Lines, junior Carolyn Korchik, and junior Laurisa Ewert each scored 16 points for the Pipers. Petrich and first-year Allison Bratsch each added 12 points.
The Pipers shot over 55 percent from the field (41-74) for the game, including 10 of 24 from beyond the arc. Petrich finished the night 6 of 7 from the field. Lines was 6 of 10 from the floor while Ewert finished the contest 8 of 15.
Ewert led the effort on the boards with nine. Petrich added eight rebounds. Sophomore point guard Megan Haugen dished out eight assists in just 19 minutes of playing time.
Meanwhile, Cornell (0-1) struggled all night, shooting 28 percent - 23 percent in the second half. Anna Skaggs paced the Rams with 18 points on 5 of 13 shooting.
