Baruch 74, Lesley 37

New York, NY - — Jessenia Marrero and Chiresse Paradise each scored 17 points to pace four players in double-figure scoring as Baruch defeated Lesley University of Boston, 74-37, in an opening round game of the Baruch Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon in New York City.

Baruch will face Gallaudet University of Washington, DC in the Championship Game tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Gallaudet defeated SUNY-Potsdam, 70-57, in the other game of the afternoon played at Baruch's ARC Arena.

The tournament game was close early with the score tied at 10 apiece with 12:05 remaining, but Baruch closed out the first half with a 28-8 run.

Sophomore forward Ally Stamatiades, a member of the 2003-'04 ALL-CUNYAC Rookie team, scored 12 first half points and grabbed six rebounds. She finished the game with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.

Lesley got as close as 18 points twice in the second half, but could never make a big enough run to get back into the game. They had 26 total turnovers and shot 30 percent (16-53) from the field.

Racquel Reid, a transfer from Division I Maryland -Eastern Shore, scored 11 points in her Baruch (1-0) debut and point guard Diane Ramirez dished out six assists.

Christine Buchanan led Lesley (0-1) with eight points and nine rebounds.
