Hamline broke the record for points in a game set on Jan. 6, 2001 when the Pipers defeated St. Catherine 105-65. The 71-point win helped eclipse the largest margin of victory record that was set last Friday when the team beat Cornell by 59 points (104-45).
Hamline (2-0) outscored the Rams (1-3) 74-12 in the first half, shooting 29 of 49 from the field and forcing 24 turnovers in the process.
The Pipers broke out to an early 6-0 lead after forcing turnovers on the Rams' first six possessions. Hamline was up by 34 just 10 minutes into the game.
Four Pipers scored double-figures in the first half, led by junior Laurisa Ewert's 14 points. Ewert would finish the game with 24 points on 11 of 18 shooting with 12 rebounds, nine steals, and four assists. Hamline ended the game with six players in double figures.
Junior Carolyn Korchik added 19 points on 7 of 16 from the floor. Sophomore Erin Petrich chipped in 15 points. First-year Allison Bratsch had 14 points. Sophomore Megan Haugen scored 12 points on 4 of 4 from three-point range in the first half. First-year Ashley Busch scored 10 points.
The Rams were held to 21 percent shooting from the field in the first half and 32 percent for the game.
Hamline was 10 of 20 from three-point range in the game and 16 of 23 at the free throw line.
Ram Kristin Way led the way with 18 points for North Central.
