The win is the first in more than 10 years for a Baruch women's basketball team at Hunter College. Last year, this same women's team ended their 10-year winless streak at home to the Hawks.
In addition, head coach Machli Joseph quickly picked up his 25th career win in just his 33rd game as head coach.
The game lived up to its billing as a top notch affair between two of the favorites in the conference, but at times suffered from sloppy play and turnovers.
Sophomore guard Chiresse Paradise (Chicago, IL/Rich Central) led the Bearcats (4-1, 1-0 CUNYAC) with 18 points, including several key baskets in the overtime session. She also snatched six steals in a game that saw Hunter turn the ball over 30 times.
Ally Stamatiades (Astoria, NY/W.C. Bryant) had her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while senior point guard Diane Ramirez had 10 points and six steals.
Naesha Tyler-Moore (Matteson, IL/Rich Central) scored 13 points off the bench.
Despite trailing by 17-points in the first half, Hunter (2-2, 0-1 CUNYAC) slowly picked away at the lead and led by a basket late in the game. However, poor shot selections played into Baruch's favor, and a series of key free throws down the stretch sealed the win.
Jen Ithier (New York, NY/Manhattan Center) led the Hawks with 20 points, while Krystin Suarez (Staten Island, NY/Saint John Villa) had 16 points and four steals.
Baruch will return to action this Tuesday with a conference game at John Jay College. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
