Concordia-Moorhead 53, St. Mary's (Minn.) 47

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Concordia threatened to run away with their game against St. Mary's from the onset but had to struggle to outlast the Cardinals 53-47 in the first home game of the season.

It was a game that can be best summed up in the old "good news, bad news" formula. The good news for Cobber head coach Jessica Rahman is that the Concordia defense limited St. Mary's to only 47 points, including an 18-point first half. The bad news is that the Cobber offense was just as cold from the floor as the Cardinals, struggling to score 53 points and shooting just 37.8% (17-for-43) from the floor in the game.

The best news for Rahman is that they come away with the important conference victory. The Cobbers are now 2-1 in conference play and 4-2 overall. St. Mary's slides to 1-2 in the MIAC and 2-3 overall.

Concordia had two of the three players in the game that finished with double-digit point totals. Melanie Hageman had a team-high 14 points, the second straight game she has scored 14 points and the third straight game she has led the team in scoring, while Annie Keeley added 10 points. Hageman hauled in a team-high seven rebounds as well. Cobber freshman Jenna Freudenberg had a game-high four assists.

St. Mary's was led by Ashley Luehmann. Luehmann had a game-high 15 points, all on 3-point field goals. She was 5-of-6 from behind the arc. She also finished with a team-high seven rebounds.

Concordia will finish their pre-Christmas portion of their 2005-06 schedule when they host St. Olaf on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1:00pm.
