THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Carthage College women’s basketball team (5-5, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) finished third at the Wednesday-Thursday, Dec. 28-29 California Lutheran University “Posada Royale Classic” in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Carthage swamped Central College (0-8), 53-34, in the Dec. 29 consolation game, The Lady Reds lost to the University of Puget Sound (8-2), 79-49, in a first-round game on Wednesday, Dec. 28, with the host-Regals (4-3) defeating Central (0-7), 91-82, in the other first-round contest.

In Carthage’s win over Central, the Lady Reds led by 12 points at halftime, 28-16. The Dutch closed to within seven points, 28-21, at 18:52 before Carthage went on an 11-2 run to open up a 16-point lead, 39-23, at 13:40. Carthage made it a 17-point game, 49-32, at 4:14 and went on to win by 19, 53-34. The Lady Reds shot 38 percent (23-60), while Central shot just 24 percent (14-59). Carthage’s Erika Buchholz scored a game-high 18 points on seven-of-10 field goals, including four-of-seven from three-point range. Kristina Dredge had 11 points with 12 rebounds. Carlie Janowiak chipped in nine points with 15 rebounds and nine assists, while Katie Jarger had eight points with 12 rebounds. Katy Paxton topped the Dutch with 11 points. Carthage closes out its non-conference schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 3 by playing host to Edgewood College at the Carthage Physical Education Center in Kenosha, Wis. (7:30 p.m.).
