Simpson 107, Cornell 27

Mt. Vernon, Iowa — Simpson College set or tied three school records as the Storm defated Cornell College 107-27 Feb. 5 in Mt. Vernon. The Storm reset the school record for largest margin of victory, winning by 80. The old mark was 70 set Dec. 6, 1997 against Dubuque (107-37). Simpson established a new school record for most points scored in a half as the Storm scored 63 points in the second half. The old mark was 55, set on two different occasions. Simpson tied the school record for fewest points allowed in a game, 27, which was originally set against Cornell during the 1978-79 season.

None of the 15 players who dressed for Simpson played more than 17 minutes in the game and all but of the 15 Storm varsity scored. Simpson led 44-12 at halftime and limited the Rams to 24% shooting (12-50). The Storm outrebounded Cornell 46-24. Simpson forced 39 Rams' turnovers which were turned into 54 Storm points.

Six players scored in double figures for Simpson, led by freshman Carlie Beals who posted a career high 17. The West Des Moines native (Valley H.S.) was 6-7 from the floor, 3-3 from three-point range. Kristi Prostine scored 14 on 6-9 shooting. Ashley Bogaards, Ashley Hansen, Tessa Van Oosbree, and Katelyn Whiton each posted 10 points for the Storm. Holli Gipson led Cornell with 11 points.
