TACOMA, Wash. — Three Lutes were in double figures as Pacific Lutheran escaped an upset-minded Pacific Boxers squad 55-48 in a Northwest Conference women’s basketball matchup Saturday night in Olson Auditorium.

PLU improves to 11-7, and 7-2 in the conference, while Pacific slips to 5-12, and 1-8 in conference play.

The trio of Aundi Kustura (14 points), Kezia Long (15 points), and Emily Voorhies (12 points) combinded for 41 of PLU’s 55 points. Pacific’s Dee Dee Arnall, the conference’s top scorer, finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, before fouling out with 16 seconds remaining in the game.

PLU had the hot hand early, as they jumped out to a 23-9 lead with consecutive buckets from Voorhies and Kustura. Pacific’s Erin Wilson’s 3-pointer brought the Boxers within six, at 26-19 with 4:27 left in the first half. PLU outscored Pacific 7-3 in the last two minutes of the half to take a 32-22 lead at halftime.

The Boxers slowly began chipping away PLU’s lead with 9:12 remaining in the game, as Kami Shigematsu’s 3-pointer and Kristina Steven’s layup brought the Boxers within four at 45-41. An Arnall jump shot brought Pacific within one at 48-47, before PLU put the game out of reach with a rebound put back by Voorhies and free throws by Kustura.
