DECORAH, Iowa — The Buena Vista University women's basketball team edged Luther College 66-63 on Friday night to remain undefeated in league play. Katie Maguire scored a game-high 22 points as the Beavers held off a late Norse rally.

A Maguire field goal put Buena Vista on top 64-58 with just under three minutes to play. Luther proceeded to go on a 5-0 run to pull within 64-63 with two minutes on the clock. The score remained the same when Luther held the ball for the last shot. The Norse had two cracks at taking the lead but missed two shots from within the paint. Maguire pulled down the rebound on the second missed shot. She was fouled with one second left and canned both free throws to give the Beavers the three-point win.

Tracy Hartwig added a season-high 19 points for Buena Vista, which improved to 21-1 on the season, 13-0 in the league. The Beavers can clinch a share of the conference title with a win Saturday at the University of Dubuque or a Simpson College loss to Loras College.

Luther was led by Anne Straate who tallied 21 points and 13 rebounds. Christina Gaard added 11. The Norse fell to 16-5 overall, 10-3 in the IIAC.

Buena Vista outshot Luther 45 to 37 percent from the field. The Beavers won despite turning the ball over 20 times, the third-most of the season. The win was Buena Vista's 19th in a row.
