Lane, who entered the game with 990 career points, scored eight points in the opening 9:51 of the game then missed two opportunities to reach the scoring milestone in the first half before finally connecting following intermission. Lane, a psychology major, finished the game with 10 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the floor – giving him an even 1,000 points for his career. He also added 14 rebounds in the contest. Lane is the Mount’s all-time leader in career rebounds (898) and blocked shots (149).
As for the game, Mount Saint Mary used a 19-3 run over the final 10:52 of the first half to open a 31-15 advantage at the break. Then, the Blue Knights outscored CCNY 21-9 to start the second half en route to extending their lead to 52-25 with just over 12 minutes to play in the game. MSMC led by as many as 28 points in the second half.
For the Blue Knights, senior center Sergio Guzman (New York, NY) led the way with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Mike Hoyt (Florida, NY) added 11 points. Roberto King (Hempstead, NY) chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.
CCNY received solid performances out of guards Avain Gourdine (North East Bronx, NY) and Andrew Mungin (Highbridge, NY). Gourdine scored a team-high 16 points while Mungin added 11 points.
Mount Saint Mary (13-10) out-rebounded CCNY (7-18) by a 53-28 margin. The Blue Knights head into the final game of the regular season against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday looking to lock up the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the Kaplan Center.
