Buena Vista 77, Simpson 72

STORM LAKE, Iowa — The Buena Vista University women's basketball team recorded its 21st consecutive win by defeating Simpson College 77-72 on Wednesday night. Katie Maguire and Kristina Kapler each scored over 20 points as the ninth ranked Beavers improved to 23-1 on the year, 15-0 in the Iowa Conference.

Maguire's three pointer 13 seconds into the game set the tone as Buena Vista led from wire to wire. Maguire scored 23 points and dished out five assists. Kapler tallied 24 points and eight rebounds. Kelli Staley registered her third double-double of the year with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Ashley Bogaards came off the Simpson bench to score a team-high 18 points. Katelyn Whiton notched 11 as Simpson's bench outscored its starters 42-30.

Buena Vista nailed 17 of 18 from the free throw line. The Beavers held a 43-36 rebounding edge over Simpson, who fell to 18-6, 11-4 in the IIAC. BVU will attempt to become the first team in the conference to go undefeated in league play throughout a whole season since 1998-99 when it hosts Wartburg College on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
