Notre Dame (Md.) 75, Trinity (D.C.) 65

BALTIMORE — College of Notre Dame of Maryland sophomore forward Casie Hall (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne High School) and freshman guard Tanisha Drummond (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville High School) both logged career-highs to lead the host Gators in a 75-65 win over No. 5 seed Trinity University in the Atlantic Women’s Colleges Conference Quarterfinals Tuesday night at the MBK Athletic Complex.

Hall scored 23 and made a career-high nine field goal attempts, two of them from behind the 3-point line. Her total eclipsed her previous career-best of 16 against Salem (N.C.) College during her freshman season.

Drummond was 6-of-7 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free throw line en route to 17 points. Her previous best was 10 points at Chestnut Hill in January.

No. 4 seed Notre Dame advanced to play No. 1 seed Hood College in the AWCC Semifinals on Friday, February 25, 2005, 6 p.m., at Mary Baldwin College.

No. 2 Mary Baldwin will play No. 3 Chestnut Hill College in the other semifinal at 8 p.m.

Trinity sophomore guard Lauren Hall (Baltimore, Md./Severna Park High School) almost single-handedly kept the Tigers in the game. She scored 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting to lead all scorers.

Notre Dame (10-16) rallied from a five-point deficit in the first five minutes of the game to take a 21-20 lead on a Hall free throw with 5:20 to play before halftime. The Gators stretched the lead to eight before Lauren Hall hit a jumper at the buzzer to send the Tigers (6-14) to the lockerroom trailing, 36-30.

Trinity trimmed the lead to three twice in the second half, the second time coming on a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Tammy Webster (Severn, Md./Meade High School) with 11:49 to play.

Drummond, however, responded with a 3-pointer of her own to put the Gators up 49-43 with 10:53 to play.

The Gators controlled the boards, outrebounding Trinity, 52-30. They held the Tigers to only six offensive rebounds and four second-chance points, while Notre Dame had 16 offensive boards.

Sophomore forward Catherine Vecchioni (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall High School) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, 11 in the first half, and scored eight points for the Gators.

Junior guard Monica Cherry (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin High School) scored nine points, had four assists and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Courtney Knox (Washington, D.C./Bladensburg High School) added 11 points for the Tigers.
