The Pipers (3-5, 1-4 in the MIAC) erased the Ole lead with a 20-7 run early in the second half. Sophomore Kelly Lines and junior Carolyn Korchik each had five points in the run. Sophomore Ashlee Senser capped the spurt by hitting a three-pointer with 12:14 left, giving the Pipers a 47-46 lead.
St. Olaf (2-6, 1-3) would get the lead back and hold it until 25 seconds left in the contest when Korchik buried a three-pointer, making the score 63-62. St. Olaf had a chance to win the game in regulation when Christine Schwichtenberg was fouled with 1.1 second left, but she could only hit one of two from the line to force overtime.
The two teams traded the lead until Lines hit a pair of free throws with 2:17 left to make the score 71-69. Lines led the Pipers with 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting.
The free throw line played a huge part in overtime as the Oles struggled, going 2 of 6 from the line. Hamline salted away the victory by going 6 of 6 from the charity stripe.
Sophomore Erin Petrich and first-year Ashley Busch each totaled 14 points for the Pipers. Korchik added 12 points - all in the second half comeback - and Laurisa Ewert chipped in 10 points and 14 rebounds.
The Oles held a 36-25 halftime advantage after the Pipers shot 29 percent in the first half, but Hamline heated up to 54 percent in the second half.
Christina Sampson scored 21 points for the Oles, including 5 of 8 from three. Kristina Stoermer had 14 points. Holly Grimsrud netted 12.
