The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead thanks to the inside scoring presence of freshman Barbara Williams (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) and sophomore Kristina Schiefelbein (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East). The two combined for eight of the team's first 14 points.
However, Webster switched to a trapping, full-court press that ignited a 17-6 run to give the Gorlocks a one-point advantage at 21-10 with 5:30 remaining in the half. It would be Webster's only lead the entire game. Sophomore Kimberly Wensits (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) provided a spark with two quick baskets that got the Cardinals back on track as they regained the lead and led 34-28 at the break. Williams had 10 first-half points and Schiefelbein eight.
North Central adjusted to the pressure in the second half and led by 11 on several occassions. Leading 60-54 with three minutes left in the game, the Cardinals put it away after a Schiefelbein jumper and a three-pointer from Wensits for a 65-54 lead with 1:56 remaining.
Schiefelbein finished with a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds. Williams added 14 points and eight boards. Sophomore Crystal Smith (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) chipped in 13 points and seven boards.
Kim Sheets led Webster with 14 while Angie Carr had 13.
