Carleton 73, Concordia-Moorhead 67

Moorhead, Minn. — Megan Vig and Kari Christianson scored 20 points each as 25th-ranked Carleton shot lights out in the first half and held on for a 73-67 victory over host Concordia-Moorhead.

Christianson was 6-for-8 from the floor and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line in tallying her career high in points scored. It marked the 11th time Vig has scored 20 or more points in a game in her career, and she narrowly missed her second consecutive double-double wiht nine rebounds.

Jamie Visness and Mandy Pearson paced the Cobbers (4-4, 2-3 MIAC) with 18 points each. Pearson added six assists and five steals, but Carleton forced her into seven turnovers and an 8-for-20 performance from the field.

The win was Carleton's seventh consecutive victory and kept them alone in first place in the MIAC.

Carleton (7-3, 7-0 MIAC) shot a school-record 72.7 percent in the first half, canning 16-of-22 shots, in erasing an early nine-point deficit to lead 40-28 at the break. Trailing 16-7, the Knights made an incredible 12 consecutive field goal attempts, using a 26-8 spurt over the nine-minute stretch. Included in the spree were consecutive three-pointers by first-year player Taylor Ross, a Christianson three-point play and a Vig triple.

The Knights would shoot an equally cold 6-for-20 in the second half, as they went without a field goal for the first 6:12 of the second half. They still led by 10, 49-39, with under 10 minutes remaining on a Christianson trey, bit the Cobbers pulled within three on a Pearson drive and hoop with 4:27 remaining. The Knights, however, converted on 15-of-18 from the free-throw line over the final 4:14 to secure their 10th consecutive victory over the Cobbers.

Overall, the Knights shot 52.4 percent from the floor and held the Cobbers to 45.8 percent. The Cobbers held a 36-25 advantage on the glass, which translated into an 8-0 edge in second-chance points. Carleton held a 22-14 edge in points off turnovers, as the Knights forced 20 Cobbers turnovers. The big statistic came on the free-throw line, as the Knights held a 23-9 edge in points from the free-throw line, going 23-for-31 compared to 9-of-15 for the hosts.
