Ewert shot 15 of 28 from the field in the contest, scoring 20 points in the second half. However, the Cardinals (9-3, 5-3 in the MIAC)shot 49 percent for the game (27-55) behind 15 points and 11 assists from guard Jamie Rattunde.
Hamline (4-6, 2-5) trailed 43-35 at the break after Rattunde scored nine points and dished out seven assists in the first 20 minutes. St. Mary's shot 59 percent in the first half (16-27).
Hamline shot a respectable 48 percent in the first half. Ewert was 6 of 11 shooting at the half.
Hamline scored the first two buckets of the second half to cut the lead to 43-39. The Pipers cut the lead to four points four times in the half before St. Mary's went on a 12-2 run capped by three threes by Ashley Luehmann. Luehmann led the Pipers with 21 points on 6 of 14 from the field.
The Pipers went on a 20-8 spurt late in the game, but could get no closer than 83-75 with 1:00 left.
Sophomore Kelly Lines added 15 points while sophomore Andrea Eilertson tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Cardinals placed five players in double figures. Angie Arrington added 17 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Megan Moran chipped in 11 points off the bench.
