Hamline (4-7, 2-6 in the MIAC) trailed by just two points in the opening minute of the second half when point guard Erin Petrich made the score 37-35 with a layup on the half's opening possession.
But the Blazers (10-1, 7-1) answered with the decisive spurt. Blazer forward Anna Heikenen scored six of her team-high 13 points in the run. Reserve Justine Richels also scored six points on a pair of three-pointers.
The Pipers gave the Blazers a scare in the first half. After falling behind 7-0, Hamline later tied the game at 12-12 on a Carolyn Korchik jumper with 15:37 in the half. St. Benedict went on another short run, but the Pipers stayed close and trailed 37-33 at the break after Allison Bratsch hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the half.
Hamline held the Blazers to just 33 percent shooting (11-33) in the first half, but the Blazers heated up in the second half shooting 60 percent (18-30) in the game's final 20 minutes. Hamline cooled off to 27 percent in th second half (9-34) after shooting 32 percent in the first half (11-34).
Korchik became the Pipers' seventh all-time leading scorer with her team-leading 15 point performance. She currently has 864 career points, surpassing Amy Popp (1987-91) on the all-time list.
Sophomore Kelly Lines added 14 points on 4 of 12 shooting. Junior Laurisa Ewert tallied eight points on 3 of 15 from the floor.
Blazer center Kim Johnson chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds.
