RIPON, WI – Amanda Guay tallied her first double-double of the season Saturday afternoon when she scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Ripon College to a 92-61 victory over Grinnell College.
The victory improved the Red Hawks to 10-3 on the season and 5-1 in the Midwest Conference. Grinnell College fell to 3-9 overall and 1-5 on the season.
The Red Hawks handled the Grinnell press with ease Saturday and staked themselves to a big lead with breakaway layups to take a commanding 49-24 advantage at the break. The Pioneers came back in the second 20 minutes and made a short run at the Red Hawks, but Ripon answered by outscoring Grinnell College 43-37 in the period and claim the 31-point victory.
Guay hit nine of 12 shots from the field to lead the Red Hawks. All-American candidate Janine Emmer added 18 points, while Morgan Roberts had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal off the bench.
As a team, Ripon shot 49 percent (35-71) from the field, 37 percent (3-8) from beyond the arc and 61 percent (19-31) from the free-throw line. The Red Hawks had 53 rebounds, 31 assists, one blocked shot and 13 steals.
Hannah Wolf was Grinnell College’s top gun, hitting six of 18 shots from the field for 17 points. Katy Bowen and Lindsay Peter had nine points each. As a team, the Pioneers shot 30 percent (19-62) from the field, 31 percent (11-35) from long range and 85 percent (12-14) from the free-throw line. Grinnell had 33 rebounds, nine assists, two blocked shots and 10 steals.
The Red Hawks will be hitting the road this weekend to face Lake Forest College on Friday, Jan. 21 and follow that with Knox College on Saturday, Jan. 22. Friday’s game at Lake Forest is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with Saturday’s game beginning at 2 p.m.
