Edgewood forced a staggering 27 turnovers in the contest and began the game with a 12-1 run. The Eagles gradually built a 34-13 lead at halftime with their largest lead of the game coming with 50 second left in the contest on a layup by Alicia Roach extending the margin to 36 points.
Freshman Nickie Updike led the Eagles in scoring with 16 points. Sophomore Jessica Abel added nine points and a team-best eight rebounds. Senior Katie Hensgen, junior Tarah Nytes, and sophomore Jordane Kittoe each scored eight points. Hensgen finished with four steals and Nytes tallied three blocked shots on the defensive end.
Erica Marchewka led the Inferno with 11 points and had all three of the team’s three-point baskets. Alverno shot 23.9 percent from the field and only 35.0 percent (7-of-20) from the free throw line.
Edgewood College will host Wisconsin Lutheran College this Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Todd Wehr Edgedome in Madison. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. followed by the men’s game versus the Warriors scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
