In a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference match-up, Clark University fell to MIT 68-58. MIT built a comfortable 15-point lead at halftime on 60.0 percent shooting from the floor and 4-for-7 from long range. Trailing by as many as 19-points, the Cougars went on a 15-6 run in the second half to cut the Engineers lead to 9-points, 46-37 with just over 14 minutes to play. MIT answered with two straight three-pointers by sophomore Alex Krull (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) to push their lead to 13-points with 12:21 to play and a lay-up by junior Mike D’Auria (Newton, MA/Newton South) gave MIT a 16-point lead. The Engineers, who shot 50.0 percent from the floor and 5-for-10 from long range, held of the Cougars in the final ten minutes to improve to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference. D’Auria ended the game with a game-high 17 points including 2-for-4 from long range. He added five rebounds and three steals. Senior Mike Huhs (Mercer Island, WA/Mercer Island) chipped in 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor and 2-for-4 from the line. Clark’s sophomore Cory Szklarz (Worcester, MA/St. Peter Marian) had a team-high 15 points; he was 9-for-15 from the line. He added five rebounds and three rebounds. Junior Tim Dutille (Sunapee, NH/Lebanon) added 11 points and six rebounds for the Cougars while graduate student Adam Miller (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John’s) once again recorded double-digits in rebounds with 12. Kroll chipped in eight points for MIT, who had nine players score. The Cougars fell to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in the conference and are back in action against non-conference opponent Nichols College on Thursday, January 20 at the Kneller Athletic Center. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
