The Rams led by as many as eight at 12-4 with 14:34 left to go in the first half.
Malinda Berglund cut the deficit to one at 14-13 with a three-pointer with 8:40 to go before the half.
North Central pushed the lead back to seven at 24-17 with a little over four minutes to go in the first half and that’s when Burglund jumped started the Cougar comeback.
Her jump shot at the 3:47 mark of the half cut the Rams lead to 24-19.
Ashley Latham gave UMM their first lead of the game at 25-24 with 1:58 left in the first half and them Berglund connected from long range to make it a 28-24 game in favor of the Cougars.
A North Central basket made it a two point game, but Latham’s jump shot with just: 22 seconds left in the half put UMM up 30-26.
Defense took over for the Cougars in the second half as the Rams shot just 21 percent (7-34) from the floor in the second half as Minnesota-Morris out scored NCU 33-21 over the final 20 minutes.
A pair of free throws and a basket by Marissa Maynard gave UMM a 41-31 lead five minutes into the second half.
North Central got to within four at 50-46 with just under five minutes left in the game, but then baskets by Alaina Benson and Arielle Anderson gave the Cougars an eight point lead at 54-46 and that was as close as the Rams would get as UMM out scored North Central nine to one over the games final three plus minutes to pick up the win.
Malinda Berglund led all scorers with 17 for the Cougars, as she was three for three from behind the arc.
Marissa Maynard added 13 off the bench for the Cougars, the second straight game in double figures for Maynard.
The Cougars are now 8-7 overall and 1-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) as they head to Mankato for their first ever match up with Bethany Lutheran College, Friday at 5:30.
Then on Saturday, Minnesota-Morris takes on Martin Luther at 3:00 in New Ulm.
