The Knights (10-3, 10-0 MIAC) held the Royals, the nation’s top three-point shooting squad, to 5-of-15 from beyond the arc, including 3-for-10 over the final 20 minutes. Bethel came in shooting 48 percent from three-point range on the season and averaging more than eight triples made per game. Megan Vig added 13 points and five rebounds and Kari Christianson chipped in with 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals for Carleton, which won for the 10th consecutive time and 20th straight time at home.
Heather Davis paced the Royals (6-8, 4-6 MIAC) with 16 points. JoLynn Thielke added 15 points and seven rebounds and Jen Ahlberg posted 14.
The Royals led much of the first half, taking an early 14-8 lead by canning six of their first seven shots, including a pair of Thielke three-pointers. Carleton gradually fought back and took a 31-29 lead at the half.
The Royals tied the game out of the lockerroom at 31-31, but the Knights took the game over with a 16-5 spurt. The Knights stretched the lead to 20 at 61-41 by holding the Royals to 4-for-19 shooting over the first 16 minutes of the half.
The Knights shot an amazing 62 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes and an even 50 percent for the game. Carleton held a 24-12 edge in points off turnovers, forcing 18 Bethel miscues. Carleton out-rebounded the visitors 36-21, giving it a 13-2 spread on second-chance points. The Knights’ bench also gave them a lift, outscoring their Royal counterparts 12-2.
