The Cobbers led 27-9 at one point in the first half and by as many as 25 in the second half as they won for the fourth straight game.
After completing the first round of play in the conference schedule, Concordia is now 7-3. The Cobbers are 9-4 overall. Hamline, after beating Bethel by 24 on Monday, falls to 3-7 in league play and 5-8 overall.
Three different Concordia players figured in double-digits in points for Concordia, and 12 different Cobbers tallied at least two points. Annie Keeley sank 2-of-3 long-range shots and finished the game with a game-high 14 points. Mandy Pearson was one assist away from her first double-double of the season. She finished with 12 points and nine assists. Leanne White came off the bench to score a career-high 11 points to go along with four rebounds.
Not a single Hamline player was able to crack the 10-point barrier. Kelly Lines led the team with nine points, while Allison Bratsch also had nine points and added a team-high, five rebounds.
The Cobbers landed punishing blows from the opening tap as they scored the first six points and 11 of the first 13. Concordia extended the lead to 27-9 by going on an a 6-0 run with 7:26 left to play in the opening half. The Cobbers then grabbed a 20-point lead at the break, leading 43-23.
Hamline mounted a run at Concordia in the second half but the Cobbers were able to absorb the Piper punches before landing a few late blows to keep Hamline from making a serious charge. After Concordia pushed the lead to 25 at 48-23, Hamline went on a 11-0 run midway through the period to pull to within 13 at 55-42. Karie Visness proceeded to hit a 3-point shot on the Cobbers' next possession and Hamline never threatened after that point.
Concordia shot 48.5% (32-of-66) from the field, while the Pipers were held to only 35.8% (19-of-53) from the floor. The real story of the game was told in the rebounding and turnover categories. The Cobbers outrebounded the Pipers 41-26, including 16-6 on the offensive glass. Concordia also caused Hamline into turning the ball over 23 times, as compared to only 17 for the Cobbers.
The Cobbers will continue on their five-game homestand when they host St. Ben's on Saturday, January 22 at 1:00pm. The Blazers are one of the three teams that have handed the Cobbers a loss in league play this season. Currently St. Ben's is ranked 12th in the latest WBCA poll.
