WESTFIELD, Mass. - — Junior forward Jen Fontaine (Dracut, Mass.) led a balanced attack with 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals to lead Fitchburg State to a 64-47 Mass. State Conference victory over Westfield State on Jan. 22.

The Falcons improved to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Westfield drops to 4-9 and 0-4.

A 22-0 scoring spurt in the first half keyed the Falcon victory. Westfield led 13-9 at the 12:34 mark then Fitchburg took a commanding 31-13 lead with 5:06 remaining. The Owls committed 18 turnovers and shot just 25 percent from the field in the first half.

Junior guard Kate Redican (Meriden, Conn.) also scored 11 points for the winners and senior guard Cortney Kelley (Hanson, Mass.) added 10 points. Senior forward Jenn Kirkland (Somerville, Mass.) contributed nine points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.

Westfield freshman guard Betty Dely (Waltham, Mass.) tallied a game-high 15 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Junior guard Meghan McCarthy (Belchertown, Mass.) scored 10 points.
