Buena Vista 84, Luther 79

STORM LAKE, Iowa — The BVU 18th ranked women claimed sole possession of the Iowa Conference lead and extended their 30 home game win streak as they defeated the Luther College Norse 84-79 on Friday. Both teams entered the game unbeaten in league play. Senior Jess Griggs earned a career high 27 points to lead all scorers as the Beavers improved to an untouched 8-0 mark in the conference and a 16-1 record overall.

The game proved to be as exciting as anticipated as the lead changed six times in the first half, with the Beavers taking the 42-39 advantage into the locker room at the break. Both BVU and Luther traded hoops throughout the second half, until a layup by Griggs with 5:41 remaining put the Beavers in the lead 71-69. The Beavers would control the advantage for the remainder of the game.

All five starters for the Beavers earned double figures in the contest with Megan Holtorf recording 14, Kelli Staley earning 11 and Kristina Kappler and Katie Maguire scoring 10 apiece.

Four Luther players also claimed double figures including Anne Straate and Sarah Laposky who each finished the game with 13 points. The Norse fell to 13-3 overall, 7-1 in the IIAC with the loss.
