Central 86, Cornell 39

PELLA, Iowa — Central College place four players in double figures in an 86-39 romp past Cornell College in Iowa Conference women’s basketball action Friday.

Guard Morgan Martin had a game-high 14 points with three assists and six steals for the Dutch, now 7-11 overall and 4-7 in the league. They had 24 steals on the night, forcing 37 Cornell turnovers.

Guard Rachel Lenox had 13 points, five assists and three steals for Central while forward Ann Mendenhall had 12 points and guard Danielle Dowling came off the bench to chip in a season-best 10 points. Anna Skaggs had 10 points for winless Cornell (0-16 overall, 0-9 conference) and Melanie Manz added eight points and 10 rebounds.

“Everything seemed to go well for us tonight,” said Dutch coach Mick Angel. “Everyone that got in contributed, and they played well together. We ran the floor and were able to get good shots.”

Central shot 54.4 percent from the floor to Cornell’s 38.3 percent while outrebounding the Rams, 37-30.

Central comes back Saturday afternoon to meet Wartburg College at 4 p.m. at Kuyper Gym. Wartburg tripped the Dutch in Waverly Jan. 14, 75-70. The Knights fell at Loras College in Dubuque Friday, and are 4-5 in conference play.
