Buena Vista 78, Cornell 51

STORM LAKE, Iowa — The 18th ranked Buena Vista University women won their 15th consecutive game on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Rams of Cornell College by a 78-51 margin. The Beavers maintained their perfect mark in the Iowa Conference, improving to 9-0 and 17-1 on the season. Cornell is still searching for their first conference win and fell to 0-10 on the Iowa Conference season, 0-17 overall.

Buena Vista set the pace early as they opened the game on a 10-0 run before the Rams could answer. The Beavers led by as many as 21 in the first half, until the Rams found started connecting from behind the arc and hit four three pointers to bring themselves within 15 at the break.

However, the BVU women would not falter and continued to control the game in the second half as they went 5-10 from behind the arc and rolled on to the 78-51 victory.

Maguire led the Beavers and all scorers with 18 points and three assists. Kelli Staley also recorded double figures with 13 points and Jess Griggs added 12 in the contest.

The Rams were paced by Melanie Manz as she recorded a double-double scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Anna Skaggs also added 12 points in the loss.
