Baruch 81, Farmingdale State 73

New York, NY — Senior guard Jessenia Marrero (Flushing, NY/Francis Lewis) scored 22 points (9-18 FG) to lead Baruch to an 81-73 non-conference win over SUNY-Farmingdale on Monday night in the ARC Arena.

Farmingdale (1-2) opened the scoring with the first four points of the game, but the Bearcats responded with a 20-8 run to take control for an eventual 39-31 halftime lead.

Marrero led the charge with 15 first-half points and senior point guard Diane Ramirez (Sunnyside, NY/Francis Lewis) added 11 points.

Baruch continued the push to start the second half with a 13-2 run for a 52-33 advantage on a Chiresse Paradise (Chicago, IL/Rich Central) layup at the 16:02 mark.

That lead remained steady throughout most of the second half, but Farmingdale created a late 16-5 run to cut the deficit to 77-69 on a three-pointer by Rochelle Clark (Bellport, NY/Bellport) with 1:30 left.

The Bearcats fended off the remaining rally with a pair of free throws by Ramirez & Ally Stamatiades (Astoria, NY/W.C. Bryant) to seal the 81-73 home win.

Mercedes Miller (New York, NY/Manhattan Center) was dominant for Farmingdale with 25 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocks. Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) scored 15 points (3-5 via 3PT) and grabbed five rebounds before fouling out late in the game.

Ramirez (18 points, seven rebounds, seven assists), Paradise (16 points, nine rebounds), and Stamatiades (14 points, nine rebounds, six assists) all had a solid evening.

The Bearcats will return to action this Sunday with a non-conference home game against SUNY-Geneseo. Tip off in the ARC is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
