GRINNELL, Iowa — The Central College women’s basketball team couldn’t make a 10-point halftime lead stand up, as Grinnell College came away with a 77-70 non-conference victory Tuesday.

The Dutch (0-2) turned an 11-6 deficit into a 20-13 advantage with a 14-2 run over 3:35. They led 38-33 at the break and were up by as much as 45-35 early in the second half before a dry spell of nearly four minutes. Grinnell, playing its season opener, finally took the lead at 64-62 with 7:34 remaining and never trailed again.

Freshman forward Stephanie Snitker knocked down 8 of 11 shots for 17 points and eight rebounds for the Dutch. Sophomore guard Laura Porter added 11 points and five assists. Central held a commanding 52-33 rebounding advantage but committed 24 turnovers. The Dutch shot 44.6 percent from the floor.

Coach Natalie Nakic’s club opens Iowa Conference play next Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Storm Lake against Buena Vista.
