The Lady Blues (2-1) opened a 43-23 lead at the break and widened that margin throughout the second half as 10 different players broke into the scoring column. Imel, a 6-0 sophomore, missed her team’s first two games while recovering from a bout of mononucleosis. But she showed a deft shooting touch against the Lady Highlanders by hitting 10 of her 12 field goal attempts, including three from beyond the arc.
Senior Courtney Allen and sophomore Jolene Dodge each contributed 11 points and six rebounds for the winners, who converted 56 percent (35-62) of their shots from the field. Junior guard Megen Richards had nine points for Illinois College while the visitors (0-4) were led in scoring by Amanda Burns with 14 and Rhonda Ward with 13.
MacMurray was 14-for-50 from the field for 28 percent while Illinois College posted a 43-30 margin on the boards.
