Carthage 63, St. Mary's (Ind.) 45

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Carthage College women’s basketball team (1-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated St. Mary’s College (Ind., 1-3), 63-45, on Saturday, Nov. 26 at the Angela Athletic Arena in Notre Dame, Ind. The Lady Reds jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first six minutes. Carthage extended its lead to 20 points on two occasions in the first half, the last at 30-10 with 1:29 to play. The Lady Reds led by 13 at the break, 30-17. In the second period, the Belles closed to within six points, 34-28, at 16:11, before Carthage went on a 25-5 run to take a commanding, 24-point lead, 57-33, at 6:29. The Lady Reds won on to win by 18, 63-45. Carthage shot 53 percent (25-47), including a blistering 67 percent (12-18) in the first half. St. Mary’s (Ind.) shot just 26 percent (14-53) for the game, including 17 percent (4-24) in the first period. Carthage’s Jenny Wuest scored a career-high 21 points on nine-of-11 field goals, along with six rebounds. Shana Lieberman scored 17 points. Alison Kessler topped the Belles with 15 points. Carthage opens at home on Tuesday, Nov. 29 by entertaining Trinity International University (Ill., 5-3) at the Carthage Physical Education Center in Kenosha, Wis. (7:30 p.m.).
